We are living in one of England’s most culturally diverse cities! Currently more than 120
languages are spoken in Sheffield. Although some of them are used by only a handful of people, our city is home to large number
of international communities that have brought with them a rich tradition of language and culture.
A study conducted by Regional Language Network: Yorkshire and the Humber in
2009 shows that the largest international communities in Sheffield are from China, India, Pakistan, Poland, Slovakia, Malaysia,
Nigeria and Zimbabwe and the languages likely to be spoken by these people (apart from English) are:
